Rescheduled Photo Walk: March Short Route 15.03.23

Published by Jon Barrett on

*Please note that this is a rescheduled event after the cancellation of our International Women’s Day event due to snow.

Join our March Photo Walk Short Route, a flat, circular walk, from Gothelney Farm, and a tour of The Walled Garden of Cannington. Booking includes entry to The Walled Garden of Cannington, and there is a tea room.

During our Quantock Hills Photo Walks it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a fancy camera or technical expertise, it’s about appreciating your surroundings and finding somewhere natural that you can immerse yourself this time of year. The camera is a fantastic tool to encourage you to slow down and focus your attention, it’s a mindfulness exercise and can be a very relaxing process.

Our Short Route Photo Walk is for anyone who would like a dose of nature, but would like to spend a while enjoying each stage of the journey on foot. It’s a slow walk, so perhaps you need a little longer to frame and compose your shot, or you need plenty of time to walk the route. We’ll all walk with each other at a relaxed pace, slowing down and observing our surroundings.

This Short Route is a 5.5km walk and has very flat terrain which includes around only 32m elevation across the day.

Start time:

10am (we will aim to be back by 2pm)

Transport:

This walk will start from the Gothelney Farm who have kindly allowed us to use the venue as our start location. We’ll meet at 10am. There may be limited parking spaces so if you can lift share please do. (If you need transport, and otherwise couldn’t attend, for yourself or several in your group, then we may be able to arrange collection from a local hub).

What to bring:

Hiking boots, or stout walking boots (our walks can be wet and boggy with mixed terrain)

Snacks and a packed lunch. We will try to arrange a sharing flask, feel free to bring your own. There is a tea room at the midway point, The Walled Garden of Cannington, for hot drinks and sweet/savoury treats.

Water (recommended 1 litre)

Waterproofs and warm clothing

Terrain:

A gentle walk, very flat terrain, sometimes muddy underfoot, fields and pavement.

Safety:

Our Short Route Photo Walks are designed to be walked at a steady pace, to be as enjoyable as possible for everyone, so that we can take in the surroundings. It’s about taking in the moments, and being in nature at a gentle pace, it’s not about rushing to finish. Participants are responsible for their own health and safety. If you are unsure, please contact us and we’ll be happy to share details about the walk. jonathan.barrett@somerset.gov.uk
