Photo Walk: March Long Route 18.03.23

Published by Jon Barrett on

Join our March Photo Walk Long Route, a walk from Gothelney Farm. We will meet at Steart Marshes and have arranged transport to take us to Gothelney Farm, where we will start our walk and enjoy some hot beverages and sweet/savoury bakes.

During our Quantock Hills Photo Walks it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a fancy camera or technical expertise, it’s about appreciating your surroundings and finding somewhere natural that you can immerse yourself this time of year. The camera is a fantastic tool to encourage you to slow down and focus your attention, it’s a mindfulness exercise and can be a very relaxing process.

Our Long Route Photo Walk is for anyone who would like a dose of nature, but would like a longer challenge to stretch the legs. The group will walk at a moderate pace, creating a visual record of what we see on the walk, however, stoppages will be limited and we will take a longer scheduled break at the Field Bakery and Cannington Walled Gardens.

This Long Route is up to 12km walk and has fairly flat terrain which includes 94m elevation across the day.

Start time:

9.30am (we will aim to be back to Steart by 2pm and you have the option to explore the Marshes – we may even be able to do this by bicycle! Thanks to WWT)

Transport:

This walk will start from Steart Marshes. We’ll meet at 9.30am and it is easily found. The car park charges by donation, and there are limited spaces so if you can lift share please do. (If you need transport, and otherwise couldn’t attend, for yourself or several in your group, then we may be able to arrange collection from a local hub). We have arranged transport for the return journey.

What to bring:

Hiking boots, or stout walking boots (our walks can be wet and boggy with mixed terrain)

Snacks and a packed lunch. We will try to arrange a sharing flask, feel free to bring your own.

Water (recommended 1 litre)

Waterproofs and warm clothing

Terrain:

A gentle route, sometimes muddy underfoot, fields and some pavement.

Safety:

Our Long Route Photo Walks are designed to be walked at a moderate and constant pace. It’s about taking in the photographic moments and being in nature, exercising gentle health for our mental health, but we will be mindful of reaching our destination in good time.
