Photo Walk: January Long Route 21.01.23

Published by Jon Barrett on

It can be all too easy to forget to tune into nature during these colder, winter months. Take a step away from the frenetic pace of modern life and direct your view outwards, capturing the beauty of the great outdoors, with the camera on your phone or the camera around your neck.

On our Quantock Hills Photo Walks it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a fancy camera or technical expertise, it’s about appreciating your surroundings and finding somewhere natural that you can immerse yourself this time of year. The camera is a fantastic tool to encourage you to slow down and document your journey, and this month our Long Route Photo Walk is for people who would like a dose of nature, but would like a longer challenge to stretch the legs. The group will walk at a moderate pace, creating a visual record of what we see on the walk, however, stoppages will be limited and we will take a longer scheduled break at the cafe during our journey.

Please note that we will also be running a Short Route Photo Walk on Wednesday 25th January 2023. This shorter walk will allow for a slower pace of walking and plenty of stoppages. Booking essential, please see our Eventbrite page for the link.

This Long Route is a 9km walk and has an undulating route which includes 260m elevation across the day. We will journey from Nether Stowey across the hills in a circular route, taking in the beautifully picturesque woodlands and heritage sites along the way. Stout walking boots are recommended, especially for the wet and soft ground we’ve experienced lately. Please bring water with you and any snacks/lunch you require – there will be an opportunity for refreshments at the Foxy Bean cafe along the route at the midway point.

There are no rules for what to do with your images when you get home, but we would really encourage you to join our Facebook and social channels, tagging us and the Quantock Hills in any photographs.

All additional information about the walk, including directions and parking, will be sent on booking. If you have any questions about the walk, please contact jonathan.barrett@somerset.gov.uk
