Adder Identification and Survey Training Day Sun 26th March 2023

With help from our adder specialist John Dickson from The Reptile and Amphibian Group for Somerset, you can learn all about the amazing adders and we will be heading out to see if we can find some. This is a great opportunity to learn a new skill, meet like-minded wildlife lovers, and explore the Quantocks in a unique way.
On the day (exact timing and location TBC but expect a central and accessible location):
Morning – We will take a walk to attempt to locate some adders* and discuss the general survey method
LUNCH – please bring a packed lunch, hot drinks and light refreshments will be available in the morning
Afternoon – A short presentation from John on the Adder, including how to identify them and determine the age and sex.
*Adders are a protected species and therefore you will never be asked to handle them
Due to weather and various logistics, this sessions are subject to change. 48 hours before the event, the specific schedule and plan will be shared.
After the event, if you are interested, you can sign up to conduct further surveys on the hill under the supervision of our Quantock Landscape Partnership Scheme Wildlife Officer, Jem.
