1.2 Digital Landscapes

This project brought together a couple of digital interpretation elements, creating new ways to access the area (physically and virtually), explore its historic and literary heritage, and put them into a modern context.

It started with a photography competition which closed in March 2022, and you can see the winning images here.

Ideas about the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of digital interpretation evolved over the course of the Scheme, but in the end we commissioned a Poetry Trail which combines state of the art geo located technology with Romantic Poetry. It has been led by the poet Ralph Hoyte who has brought together a group of local poets to write material and share their exploration of the Romantic Poets’ landscape. The trail consists of a number of poetry locations accessed via a downloadable App. When you get to the right spot, guided by the map on the App, you can hear the poetry written for that place. You can find out more about Ralph’s work here but for the Trail itself click the Quantock Poetry Trail link.

We had originally planned some other digital products, but on reviewing their cost effectiveness decided not to proceed.
